Winter Yurt Retreat + Wreathmaking (Fri Dec 13- Sat Dec 14)

$95.00

If a woodheated slumber party in a yurt surrounded by snow sounds fun, this event is for you!

Loose Itinerary:

Friday December 13

Arrive 4-6pm:  Outdoor and indoor fires will greet you upon sunset! Feel free to take a snowy hike, as Afton has many trails. We will have a potluck dinner and get to know one another.

9pm: Gather around the fire, read stories about winter solstice and yule, and then tuck into bunks. (Don’t worry, I’ll keep the fire going through the night.)

Saturday December 14

8am: Coffee, tea and breakfast spread provided by me (or you can bring/make your own campfire meal if you prefer).

9-11am: Workshop time! I’ll have lots of fresh evergreens, dried flowers and other accents to make a beautiful wreath of your own design. All materials are provided; a demonstration will take place before you’re let loose to play!

11:30am: Gather your belongings and head out of the yurt (but you’re free to explore Afton State Park for the day — and I’d encourage you to make a weekend of it- reserve the smaller yurt or one of the camper cabins there either before or after our group camp!)

Description

Location: Afton State Park– about a half hour from the Twin Cities

Date: Friday-Saturday, Dec 13-14: We will make wreaths on Saturday morning.

Hostel-style/single room accommodations: Rustic camping, everyone piles in bunks in the same room, like a sleepover. Yurt is heated by woodstove only, so please be comfortable sleeping in and dressing in layers for the duration of the trip. There are three bunks with six beds total; so I am taking a max of five registrants. You will need to bring your own bedding and toiletries. It may be “co-ed” – people of all gender identities are welcome. There is no electricity; there are vault toilets nearby the yurt. If you need more privacy or amenities/aren’t used to camping, this event may not be a great fit for youSee yurt info on the MN State Parks page.

Potluck dinner: Guests are asked to bring something small to share-– it doesn’t have to be fancy, and remember, there will only be six of us. Do keep in mind, no electricity means heating is available only on the campfire outside.

Provided breakfast: I will provide a spread of fresh fruits, nuts, pastries, and we can make coffee/tea over the fire outside.

Parking: the lot is located a short distance away; all vehicles need state park permits- you can purchase them for $7 if you don’t already have a 2019 one. Hopefully people register with buddies and carpool, as parking is limited. If you do want to have a buddy come, I’d suggest registering at the same time since space is also very limited.

Accessibility: This yurt is wheelchair accessible. There is a lower level futon bed that folds to a double that I will reserve for anyone who special requests it.
Workshops: I will bring an abundance of materials for you to create a unique design! Before we begin, I’ll demonstrate and provide basic information on the flowers/plants we are working with and on techniques.
