Jasmine & Kurt: September 20, 2019
Jasmine and Kurt were married at the James J. Hill Center in Saint Paul last autumn on the most gorgeous day. September weddings are something special – not just because the weather is likely to be perfect, outside photos will be enjoyable and the landscape is rich with growth, but for another reason florists are particularly attuned to.
In the Minnesota growing season, small farmers are seeing a bounty in their fields and garden beds. August and September are probably the most prolific months for growers in this climate. As a sustainable florist, I source from small farms who use organic growing practices as much as possible. And during the summer, it’s possible to do 100%!
Jasmine’s bouquet was highly textural and comprised of all local flowers besides the rose hips, heather and pampas grass. I used digitalis (foxglove), asters, strawflower, zinnias, smokebush foliage, amaranth, cynoglossum (Chinese forget-me-nots), sunflowers, dahlias, rudbeckia, grasses… We used a pastel rainbow of warm tones to reflect the season but in a soft and elegant way.
Witnessing such joy is incredible. From the couple’s families to their wedding party – oh, my heart! One trend I am LOVING right now is the varied tones of a single color for wedding party attire. This way, everyone can choose their own outfits based on what they prefer for fit, style and budget. As you can see from above, this works very well for formal events – it’s not just an idea for more casual affairs.
Another trend I am SO HERE FOR is cancelling gender when it comes to wedding parties. The old school “bridesmaids” and “groomsmen” rules can go in the trash. Listen: all that matters is that you have those closest to you, closest to you. If it happens to follow typical gender roles, cool. But we are past gender, folks; and I support what my couples want for themselves and nothing less.
Jasmine, Kurt: thank you. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of your sacred celebration. It’s amazing to be able to bring my passion and the beauty of the earth into people’s love stories. Keeping in touch is such a joy, as well. Happy marriage to you both!!
